United Nations to address World Biogas Summit
A special representative of the United Nations will be among a raft of international speakers to address the role biogas has to play in enabling sustainable development in a decarbonised world at the World Biogas Summit at the Birmingham NEC on 3rd and 4th of July.
Niclas Svenningsen, Manager, Global Climate Action, UNFCCC, will deliver the opening keynote address on 3rd July. In this presentation, he’ll share the UNFCCC’s views on the role that biogas can play in achieving Global Climate Action and the Paris Agreement objectives.
The UNFCCC is the eponymously named secretariat tasked with supporting the deployment of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. This international environmental treaty entered into force in 1994 with the aim to “stabilise greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system“.
Mr Svenningsen will emphasise the need to scale up existing solutions to climate change, such as biogas, and how this can be realised, considering ‘what we can do in the UN and what you can do as leaders in the biogas community’.
