Rose Bazile 

Consultant, University Notre Dame Haiti

Rose Bazile has been a nurse for over thirty years, with experience across various areas of nursing. She is a certified maternal and child health nurse. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from SUNY Downstate School of Nursing in 1986. In 2008, she earned a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in Leadership and Education from Regis University.

Rose has served as nursing faculty at Molloy College, St. Paul’s School of Nursing, Helene Fuld College of Nursing, Adelphi University, and currently at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. She also worked at Brookdale Hospital in staff development as a nurse educator and at St. John’s Episcopal Medical Center as a nurse leader in maternal and child health.

In 2003, she received the Nursing Spectrum Nurse of the Year award.

Rose M. Bazile is the founder of KDCK (Konbit pou Devlopman Commune Kòtès-de-Fè). Born in Côte-de-Fer, Sud-Est, Haiti, she has long been active in Haitian diaspora organisations in New York. She is the former treasurer of FEDADSE (Association de Côte-de-Fer) and a member-at-large of HTARG (Haitian Townships Association Resource Group). In July 2013, she was presented with a recognition award by The Syliah Foundation for her work in the Haitian community.

Since 1998, Rose has been engaged in sustainable development work in Côte-de-Fer. She is co-founder and board member of KDCK in Côte-de-Fer, Haiti. Her initiatives include the construction of the La Source Bass irrigation canal and the La Source Haute Elementary School. She has participated in several medical missions in Côte-de-Fer and has led teacher training in collaboration with the College of Savoir Vivre. Before emigrating from Haiti in 1979, she was an elementary school teacher in Port-au-Prince.

In April 2017, she won Best Oral Presentation in Nursing and Healthcare at Science Day at Adelphi University and was nominated for the Health Innovation Award – Community-Engaged Art and Health.

Currently, Rose serves as a consultant in staff development and sustainable energy at the University of Notre Dame Haiti, Hinche. She authored Solar Cooking Basics: Introductory Manual in 2018, which was published in 2019 on www.solarcookers.org/resources/download/sci-toolkit. In March 2020, she was appointed a Global Advisor by Solar Cookers International.
