Katrin Puetz founded (B)energy in 2014, an international Biogas Company based in Germany with independent distributors in a growing number of countries in Africa, Asia and Europe. She innovated several patented or IP protected biogas appliances, incl. the biogas backpack, a modular biogas burner and the biogas mitad for Ethiopia. She is a cabinet maker, environmental scientist and agricultural engineer with a unique wealth of experiences with entrepreneurship in Africa. With (B)energy she has introduced household biogas technology to Germany and Europe and is often portrait as a pioneer in the sector.
As “aid-free” business leader she is also an advocate for ending development aid in Africa and gives public speeches about this topic as well as offers consultancy. She leads several initiatives that create awareness about the negative effects of aid. In 2021 she co-founded BiogasUnite, a private sector initiative that aims to unite the African biogas sector in a Pan-African repair and customer service for biogas systems, addressing the high failure rates of systems across the continent.
