Mr. Shantanu Gupta
Executive Director (AE&SD), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
Mr. Shantanu Gupta is the Executive Director heading the Alternate Energy & Sustainable Development (AE&SD) function at Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. He brings extensive experience from various divisions within Indian Oil, including Refineries, Marketing, Aviation, Marketing Operations, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, International Marketing, and AE&SD verticals.
Mr. Gupta plays a pivotal role in expanding Indian Oil’s portfolio in Clean Energy sectors such as Bio-fuels, Solar, Wind, Nuclear, and waste-to-energy. He oversees the planning and monitoring of sustainable development, climate change mitigation, and adaptation activities within the company. Notably, he has spearheaded Indian Oil’s initiatives in Ethanol Blending in Petrol, Biodiesel Blending in HSD, Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) & SATAT initiative, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). He is also leading Indian Oil’s Sustainable Development initiatives encompassing Carbon, Water, and Waste management, as well as ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) projects. Mr. Gupta is credited as the chief architect of Indian Oil’s net-zero initiatives and is driving future ‘Green Energy’ initiatives.
At a national level, Mr. Gupta actively contributes to policy formulation initiatives of the Government of India in the field of Biofuels. His advocacy and contributions to various government policies on Biogas, including subsidies, market access, pipeline connectivity, and crop residue management, have significantly strengthened India’s Biogas landscape. He is also a part of various Global apex level meetings of the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) and had recently represented GBA at the election of the International Energy Forum (IEF) Secretary general in Rome. At Rome he also took part in apex level IEF discussions on methane abatement through biofuels.
Mr. Gupta was a speaker on Biogas at various international forums including Kenya and Tanzania. He also took part at the Sustainable Biofuels International Forum held at Turin, where he had addressed the forum on importance of Sustainable Biofuels industry for decarbonization along with underscoring the environment sustainability and social aspects of biofuels. He also took part at the Sustainable Mobility Ethanol Talks at Jakarta where he had presented the “Ethanol Growth Story of India”.
Currently, Mr. Gupta is presently involved in several projects and activities focused on setting up large scale Biogas plants, Ethanol blending, Biodiesel projects, advanced biofuels, Sustainable Aviation Fuel projects, renewable energy projects, sustainability initiatives, and nuclear power projects.
Mr. Gupta holds a Post Graduate degree in Business Management from IIM Calcutta and completed his Graduation in Engineering from IIEST-Shibpur (formerly Bengal Engineering College). He serves on the boards of IAV Biogas Pvt. Ltd. and NINECL (NPCIL-IndianOil JVC), and is the Member Secretary of the Energy Transition Advisory Committee (ETAC) formed by the Government of India.
