Dr Idan is the CEO of BTAL. Since 1994, John has been involved in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of biogas plants and biogas-based equipment in SSA. He was educated in Civil and Sanitary Engineering at the University of Bremen. John Lectured at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, Kumasi, Ghana as a Senior Lecturer in Civil and Sanitary Engineering from 1990 – 1994. He collaborated in pioneering the research and development of the integrated waste-to-energy using composite feed of sewage, municipal organic waste, biodegradable industrial waste and biomedical waste for biogas energy.
He is UNIDO international expert on biogas technology in Africa, Team Leader of Biofuels under UNEP and African Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ARSCP). He is an expert on the UN Energy-for-all initiative.
John was in charge of the construction, operation and maintenance of over 60% of biogas plants and equipment in Ghana (including the biogas plant at the Ghana Jubilee House “White House”) and also biogas installations in Burkina Faso, Mali, Malawi and Tanzania.
